OK, so I did get an answer to one of my Statistical queries (see post under “Tech and other geeky stuff”). What is the average building height of different cities ?. I have retained only “key cities of the world” in the list below. Surprisingly, NY City is 41^st ranked – largely because of the sheer number of buildings there. HK turns out to be the most prodigal of all cities in terms of number of buildings (7700) and is pretty well-ranked on avg floors/building at No. 14 (16.7 floors).

Busan in Korea is the tallest city with avg floors/building at 38, but obviously much fewer buildings (257) cities than the larger cities.

Dubai is 6^th with 604 buildings and 28 floors no avg. Chicago – 1130 and 17.3. Shanghai should grow itself out into the top 10 from rank 18 today – 999 buildings at 15.7 floors avg. Other Asian tiger cities Jakarta and KL are also in top 25.

NY City has 6000 buildings and 6.8 floors avg.

Bringing up the “rear” are Tokyo and Mumbai at Nos 48 and 49 respectively. The Japanese capital has more buildings at 2700 compared to Mumbai’s 1225, both have an avg building height of 5.
