The rise of ISIS

Nov 15, 2016

In 2003, USA invaded Iraq because of its alleged connection with terrorists and weapns of mass destruction. Saddam was dictator and part of Sunni Minority, which suppressed the 63% Shia majority and the 17% Kurds. Iraq was conquered, but after USA left, the majority Shia took over and began suppressing the Sunnis. Sunni uprising began and Al Qaeda was born, and they started launching terror attacks on Shias. Civil war started in 2006. Since then, people have been segregated by religion.

Start a war, win a war, chaos, put wrong people in charge, don’t solve the problems that led to the war, don’t’ enforce equality, deny people security, lot of violence.

Sunnis make up 80% of world, Shias 20%.

Saudi Arabia is Sunni majority and Iran is Shia majority. Both have oil. Saudi Arabia funded ISI.

In 2010, Arab spring happened. Syrian people also revolted against their King. But the king didn’t think of resigning, and started civil war. Foreign terror groups joined fight on each side, for religious reasons, and to make Syria an Islamic state. One of them was ISI and now was called ISIS. They had 1000s of well-trained fighters from northern Iraq. They changed the game in Syria very quickly. They were vicious and brutal. In the territory they controlled, they imposed strict Islamic rules, which shocked even Al Qaeda. Multiple massacres, countless suicide bombing, kidnapping of kids, killing prisoners.

The Shia PM of Iraq has consolidated power and is suppressing Sunnis. Corrupt, incapable. USA has funded its army. ISIS is capturing each territory of Iraq. By June 2014, they conquered Mosul. Stole 100s of millions from captured banks. Iran and USA oppose them.
